Exhibition- Häkterska samlingen

Karlshamn's Museum is showing a unique art exhibition this spring in the Art Gallery - "Häkterska samligen" (the Häkteriska collection).

The art lover Elise Häkter was born in 1891 in Skepparslöv outside of Kristianstad. She came to Karlshamn in 1947 and with experience in the industry, she opened, together with her husband Olof, Hotel Häkter at Ågatan 42. Elise came to be characterized by her passion for art.

Elise not only collected art but was very careful that it should be displayed and therefore decorated the walls from floor to ceiling in the hotel with treasures from artists such as Sven Erixons, Picasso, Classe Campbell, Zilo and Axel Olsson - to name a few artists from the 400-work collection.

Häkter's hotel became something of a meeting place for creative souls where many gathered over a cup of coffee. Many of the visitors also left behind works of art. This can be seen not least in the guest book Elise left behind, with drawings and sketches by Bo Beskow and Stellan Mörner, among others.

Elise Häkter's entire art collection has been bequeathed to Karlshamn Museum.
